AI Won't Replace Us - Here's Why
Share
I don’t know about you, but I feel that the AI craze hits the all time high right now. Just like some-coin, and three letter acronym for digital images that I still receive scams because I created an account on OpenSea.
And I really don’t mind all the beautiful startups made with AI, all the use cases where AI is helpful. I use it myself as a programmer, I’ve even made tests lately of several AIs I shared results here.
My personal experience with AI in coding is that it can do some things, but you have to really nail working with it to gain this 20% productivity improvement. Otherwise it’s just such a waste of time.
Yesterday, I wanted to generate some videos of my t-shirts for programmers with voice-over. I’ve found a free service to generate the voice, and downloaded the t-shirt designs. All I wanted to do is videos where there’s fade-in, ken burns effect on the t-shirt, voice over and fade-out. It’s really, really simple to do it. Of course it had to run programmatically, I didn’t want to edit these videos manually.
But here’s the thing, I used state of art models to do it, and they just failed miserably for several hours. They were unable to set up ffmpeg properly (I can’t really blame them, because ffmpeg, as it’s the best gift to humanity, isn’t really user friendly), it was able to set up other video tool for Python as well. It just insisted I have to uninstall and install everything again (what have we done!).
At the end I had to figure out myself with my own grey cells how to specifically do it, what tools to use, and tell AI step by step what it has to do to accomplish it. Eventually I’ve settled for something in the middle, because AI was unable to figure out how to do fade-in and fade-out.
You just try to do things with AI, but there’s always this level where it’s helpful, and above it, it just wastes time. And it’s not free, time is money.
And it would be ok. We just can use AI tools to do what we need in a range what is possible and move with our lives.
However now, the social media and every place online is filled with statements that AI will replace us all, and that programmers are doomed. It’s all a nonsense.
Even if AI will be able to do anything more than what copying available solutions online can do, and attribute it to this work of people, there’ll always be people, and someone who has to actually use this AI, or supervise it at least and sign under what AI hallucinates.
Usually these claims are made by people who don’t know anything about programming, and they think if AI generates some random code, it can build something meaningful too. It can’t without human involved.
So these claims AI will replace us are so weird. In fact, I think they do more harm to AI movement than help. Because they position AI as a common enemy, something we should all fight against. What will eventually lead to fast burnout of the whole craze. Just like with N, F, T. While the latter one was a meaningless stunt, and AI can be actually helpful.
Anyways, I’m done with this AI craze, I just want a toggle to disable all info about it, and I’m saying it as a person that is really into following the latest developments.
Just, how you think people feel when you say they will be replaced by AI. Even if you believe in it. Just go to people and tell them to them with a straight face: you’ll loose your job, and end up at the streets. Check out this fancy AI SaaS I’ve developed.
Again, it’s not about AI SaaS, some are great, but about the whole messaging of humanity doom that’s really the most bizarre thing people do for money. Promoting the idea they themselves will be useless. You have to admit it’s, well, it’s like a dead internet, or internet actually ran by AI agents.
Anyways, that’s not the point. The point is that I think we as human need to express who we are, and stand against the AI bullying. Against demoralizing, off the chart claims that are not based and attack every person in the world. We run the world, we pay the bills, and do taxes. We pay for everything with our money. AI will never replace us!
I wanted to have something that would say what I think about it, and designed a t-shirt with “Still not replaced by AI” text. It was received quite well, and I really like it opposes the popular culture claims.
I never created a statement stuff, but decided to give it a try, and created a collection specifically with this statement. So far I’ve created a baby bodysuit, a tote bag, scented candle, tough pone case, stickers, a blanket (yeah, a freaking blanket), canvas prints, a cup and a hoodie of course.
So if you’d like to oppose the AI craze, I invite you to express it with these totems. There’ll be more to come :)
